The public repository includes an overview, a manuscript map, PDFs and sources, a Lean library and formalization catalogue, ten selected reasoning summaries and release-history commitments.
On 6 October 2026, OpenAI released a public collection of mathematical manuscripts and proof artifacts produced by an unreleased internal model. The repository reports 722 manuscripts organized into 372 result families, selected from roughly 4,000 posed research problems. OpenAI says that the vast majority were produced with a common procedure averaging about three hours of ChatGPT Pro thinking compute per result. The collection includes claimed resolutions and advances across multiple areas of mathematics and theoretical computer science, with many but not all manuscripts accompanied by Lean formalizations.
The public repository includes an overview, a manuscript map, PDFs and sources, a Lean library and formalization catalogue, ten selected reasoning summaries and release-history commitments. OpenAI explicitly warns that some unformalized results may contain issues and says revisions will remain accessible. The release followed consultation with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence. AGMAI publicly stated that its advice does not endorse the mathematics or OpenAI's process and characterized the release as the beginning of broader human understanding and community assessment.
The event changes the scale at which frontier AI-generated mathematics enters the public research ecosystem. It combines bulk research generation, formal verification infrastructure, provenance disclosure, citation and revision mechanisms and governance consultation in one release. It also creates a new editorial challenge: aggregate historical importance can be high even while individual results occupy very different verification states and require separate specialist review.
Significance rationale: This release is a Historical Milestone because it moves AI-generated research mathematics from isolated flagship results to a public corpus at unprecedented scale. OpenAI released 722 manuscripts grouped into 372 result families, together with a substantial Lean formalization programme, reasoning summaries, compute and process disclosures, persistent public artifacts and revision commitments. The historical significance lies in the scale and public scholarly interface of the release, not in treating every mathematical claim in the collection as correct.
OpenAI released the manuscripts, source files and a substantial public formalization library. The repository explicitly states that verification stages differ across results, that not all manuscripts have Lean formalizations and that some unformalized results may contain issues.
AGMAI independently confirmed its consultation role and the importance of public scrutiny while explicitly declining to endorse the mathematical claims or certify OpenAI's compliance with its recommendations. Aggregate release significance is therefore kept separate from per-result mathematical verification.
